1 new COVID-19 case in St. Louis County; 2 new cases in Douglas County

The Minnesota Department of Health reported one new COVID-19 case in St. Louis County on Friday — a day when the Federal Prison Camp in Duluth registered its first case of coronavirus.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons noted the Duluth case on its website Friday. There have been 89 federal inmate deaths and one prison staffer death among more than 6,000 cases in the prisons.

A new case was also recorded in Koochiching County, where the last known case was reported June 2.

Friday marked the 100th day since the first case was confirmed in the Northland, specifically on March 19 in Bayfield County, Wisconsin.

Of the 498 new cases the state reported Friday, only two were in Northeastern Minnesota.

Five more Minnesotans with COVID-19 have died. None of them were Northland residents.

The number of Minnesotans in an intensive care setting with COVID-19 dropped by five to 157. The number of people hospitalized outside of an ICU setting rose by four to 178.

Across the border, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported two new cases in Douglas County. Prior to Friday, the last case in Douglas County was reported June 6.
